Student Engagement

Glen Pearsall is a former teacher leader at Eltham High School in Victoria, Australia, and board member of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. His work specializes in engaging instructional practice, positive classrooms, and workload reduction for teachers.

Gwendolyn Battle Lavert, PhD, is an internationally recognized literacy specialist. She has been an educator since 1974 and has experience as a teacher, district literacy specialist, and district administrator in a variety of school settings.

Jennifer McCarty Plucker, EdD, is the director of learning and development and a literacy consultant at Mackin Educational Resources in Burnsville, Minnesota. Her current work with educators is grounded in an inquiry approach that puts students in the driver’s seat for learning.

Attendees will learn practical ways to involve multiple stakeholders in developing a productive and celebratory reading culture in schools and classrooms.

Teresa Cariglia-Bull is a former vice principal for York Region District school board, having served as an elementary school teacher and a psychometrist at both the York Region Separate School Board and with the Learning Disabilities Research Program.

Jill Colyer has worked in educational leadership positions for over 20 years. Throughout her career, Jill has committed to improving student outcomes and supporting teacher growth as a classroom teacher, coordinator, and principal in both public and private school systems.

Marie Swift has been a K–3 classroom teacher for the majority of her career. She was also a K–12 technology resource teacher and a literacy resource teacher for K–8 in the Simcoe County District in Ontario, Canada.

John Arthur teaches sixth grade at Meadowlark Elementary, a Title I school in Salt Lake City, Utah. Since 2013, his students have gained national recognition as advocates for children and immigrants by creating music videos and other digital content and sharing their work across media platforms.

Samantha K. Dykes is an instructional coach at Linn-Mar Community School District in Marion, Iowa, where she has been a driving force in inspiring innovation through professional development.
